Editorial policy

Every article, guide and explainer on this site is written by the GeneMatrix editorial team, and carries that byline.

We don’t name individual authors or reviewers, and no piece claims a medical review. We will name a person only when they have agreed to be named and have done the work the byline describes.

We build each piece from primary sources, and cite them at the end of the piece with the date we opened each one:

• CPIC guidelines (the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium) for how a genetic result relates to a medicine.
• FDA drug labels and the FDA’s Table of Pharmacogenomic Biomarkers in Drug Labeling.
• Professional guidelines, such as NCCN or ACMG, where a piece cites them.
• Peer-reviewed studies indexed in PubMed.
• Government data, such as the CDC’s.

An outside figure appears only with a link to the source we checked it against. If we can’t verify a figure from a primary source, we leave it out.

Our prices, what each test checks, how it is run and our terms come from one controlled record that every page on this site reads. An article never types them in. A figure that has not been confirmed in that record can’t appear on the site.

• Promises about health outcomes.
• Advice to start, stop or change a medicine. A medicine named in a piece always sits beside our pharmacogenomics note.
• Descriptions of our genotyping tests as reading whole genes.
• Reviews, ratings or testimonials.
• The name of an expert who hasn’t agreed to be named.

Each piece shows the date it was last updated. Its structured data carries the date it was first published and the date of the last update.

If we get something wrong, we fix it and add a dated correction note to the piece, saying what changed.
